Volleyball Cruises to 3-0 Win on Senior Day

WICHITA – In the final home match for seniors Tori Provencio and Shelby Zoglman, the Newman volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-16) victory over Texas A&M International on Saturday (Nov. 1) at Fugate Gymnasium.  The Lady Jets moved to 13-12 and 8-7 in the Heartland Conference where they are in third place for the Heartland Conference Tournament.
 
NU hit .307 in the match, its second highest performance of the season. The highest came in a 3-0 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State on Sept. 30. The Lady Jets totaled 49 kills to 10 errors on 127 attempts. In the first set, NU finished with a .306 hitting percentage on 14 kills and only three errors. The second set was the best for the Lady Jets as they tallied 18 kills with only two errors for a hitting percentage of .364. In the final set, NU totaled a .255 hitting percentage with 17 kills and five errors.
 
Ashley Gonzalez finished with a match-high 14 kills, hitting .407. Emily Harvey had a match-high hitting percentage of .421. Alexus Litts tallied 38 assists and was one dig from a double-double as she finished with nine digs. Libero Anna Burton dug up a match-high 19 balls.
 
Seniors Tori Provencio and Shelby Zoglman were recognized before the win. Provencio finished her final home match with 11 digs. Zoglman hit .353 with six kills, three digs and one block.
 
Alex Cisxek led TAMIU with nine kills. Lizzie Priesto totaled 23 assists, and Sarah Truman ended up with 19 digs.
 
The Lady Jets travel to Alva, Okla. for two matches. NU takes on Northwestern Oklahoma State at 4 p.m. and then play Oklahoma Panhandle State in a conference match at 6 p.m. The regular season ends on Thursday (Nov. 6) against Baker College at 7 p.m. in Baldwin City, Kan.
