FORT SMITH, Ark.  – The Newman volleyball team plays in the Heartland Conference Tournament semifinals tonight against St. Edward's at 7:30 p.m. at Stubblefield Center on the campus of UA Fort Smith. The Lady Jets are looking for their first-ever Heartland Conference Tournament win. Live video and stats will be available for the contest.
 
NU is the No. 3 seed after going 9-7 in the Heartland Conference. The Lady Jets are 15-13 overall. They have won three of their last four matches, including two conference victories over Texas A&M International and Oklahoma Panhandle State. Junior middle hitter Ashley Gonzalez was recently named to the All-Heartland Conference Volleyball First Team.
 
The Hilltoppers are the No. 2 seed and went 11-5 in the Heartland Conference. SEU is 18-7 overall. They enter tonight's contest on a two-match winning streak with wins over Texas-Permian Basin and Huston-Tillotson, both as home. Outside hitters Mary Koehler and Hannah Rauch were both selected All-Heartland Conference First Team.   
 
During the regular season, the Lady Jets and Hilltoppers split the series, both getting wins on the road. SEU defeated NU on Sept. 18 in a close five-set match at Fugate Gymnasium. The Lady Jets got a quick 3-0 victory on Oct. 25 at the Recreation & Convocation Center.
 
In the other semifinals match, host and No. 1 seed UA Fort Smith plays No. 4 seed St. Mary's at 5 p.m. The championship match is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 15).
 
Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for students. A two-day pass is $10. Live video and stats will be provided for free for all three matches.
