WICHITA – The Newman women's basketball team fell, 75-47, to No. 18-ranked Washburn on Saturday (Nov. 29) at Fugate Gymnasium. The Jets dropped to 2-3 on the season, and the Ichabods moved to 6-0. 
Newman held the lead early after a 
Cierra Tjaden basket 19 seconds into the game for a 2-0 NU advantage. After a WU hoop, 
Shakira Raynor put NU back in front, 4-2, with a layup at the 19:08 mark. The Ichabods knotted the score at 4-4 with a layup then Tjaden gave NU the edge again with a jumper at 17:29 for a 6-4 score. With the scored tied again at 6-6, 
Lizzy Harrison put NU up for the final time with a jumper with 16:46 remaining, giving NU an 8-6 lead. 
The Ichabods gained a one-point edge with a 3 for a 9-8 score with 15:54 left. The 3 started a 12-0 spurt for the Ichabods. They pulled out to an 18-8 lead with 13:49 remaining in the half.

Brianna Caldwell 3 ended the WU run, and a 
Tessa Ramsay basket cut the deficit to five at 18-13 with 12:01 remaining. 
WU scored 11 unanswered points to push the margin to 16 points at 29-13 with 4:25 left before halftime. The Ichabods hit three 3s during the run. WU cruised to a 39-22 halftime advantage. 
After NU made one free throw to start the half, the Ichabods pulled out to a 21 point lead with a layup and another 3. WU's lead for the rest of the game never dropped below 20 points, as the Ichabods won 75-47. 
For the game, NU shot 32.8 percent (19-58) from the field and only 16.7 percent (4-24) from 3. The Jets struggled at the free throw line, hitting 5-of-10 for 50 percent. 
Washburn shot 50 percent (26-52) from the field, including 54.2 percent (13-24) in the second half. In the first half, the Ichabods went 7-of-13 (53.8 percent) from 3 and finished at 9-of-19 (47.4 percent) from deep. Taylor Ignoto scored a game-high 21 points and hit three 3s. Casyn Buchman hit four 3s for 14 points. 
The Ichabods held a 46-24 advantage in rebounds. 
Newman was led by Caldwell with nine points. 
Kesha Buckner grabbed a team-high six rebounds, and Tjaden had four assists.
