GOODWELL, Okla. – The Newman volleyball team can secure a spot in the Heartland Conference Tournament today (Nov. 4) at Oklahoma Panhandle State at Oscar Williams Field House. The Lady Jets play OPSU at 4 p.m. and then take on Northwestern Oklahoma State at 6 p.m. Live video and stats will be provided for both matches.
NU currently is 8-7 in the Heartland Conference, ranking third for the Heartland Conference Tournament. St. Mary's is a half-game behind at 7-7 with two conference contests to play. NU could eliminate Dallas Baptist, currently in the fifth spot at 6-8, with a NU win today. The top four teams advance to the Heartland Conference Tournament. Currently ranked first is UA Fort Smith at 13-1, its lone loss to NU, and second is St. Edward's at 12-3.
Today is the final conference match for NU. The Lady Jets have won four of their last five conference matches. NU defeated OPSU, 3-0, in its first meeting this season on Sept. 30 at Fugate Gymnasium.
OPSU is currently 1-22 and 0-15 in the Heartland Conference. They defeated Huston-Tillotson College, 3-0, on Oct. 22 in Austin Texas for their lone win. In conference play, the Aggies have not won a set in their 15 losses.
After the conference match against OPSU, NU plays Northwestern Oklahoma State at 6 p.m. The Rangers are currently 15-8 and 7-5 in the Great American Conference. Asia Pipkin leads the team with 3.48 kills per set, and Ashanti Banks adds 3.28 kills per set. Suka Tafao puts up 9.16 assists per set, and Alina Fierro has 3.45 digs per set.
After today's matches, the Lady Jets end the regular season on Thursday (Nov. 6) at Baker College at 7 p.m. in Bladwin City, Kan.
