Evgeniy Kim has been named the Heartland Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, announced today (March 31) by the Heartland Conference. It is the first time Kim has received the honor, and he joins teammates Eduardo Santos and
Nei Dos Santos as Heartland Conference Player of the Week recipients.
Kim went 3-0 in singles competition for the Jets during the past week. He helped the Jets to a 2-1 weekend with the long loss to No. 27 St. Mary's. NU lost a tight match, 5-4, to the Rattlers. Kim helped the Jets defeat Dallas Baptist, 9-0, and Collin County CC, 5-4. In the loss to StMU, Kim won at No. 3 singles 6-7, 6-0, 6-2. He blanked DBU 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles and also won, 8-0, at No. 3 doubles. A 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles against CCCC upped his record to 3-0 on the weekend. He also got a 9-8 win at No. 3 doubles with teammate
Miguel Bendito.
On the season, Kim is 12-7 and 11-6 in duals. He's 7-3 at No. 3 singles and has won four straight. In doubles, Kim is 13-8, including 6-3 at No. 3 doubles.
The Jets are currently 9-8 on the season and 1-2 in the Heartland Conference. NU travels to Moore, Okla. this weekend for three Heartland Conference matches. The Jets take on St. Edward's on Friday (April 4) then play UTPB on Saturday (April 5) and finish against UA-Fort Smith on Sunday (April 6).
