MOORE, Okla. – The Newman men's tennis team clinched a spot in the Heartland Conference Tournament with a 7-2 victory over Texas-Permian Basin, which is ranked No. 10 in the South Central Region. The Jets moved to 10-9 and 2-3 in the conference.
 
The Jets started with two wins in doubles competition. Nei Dos Santos and Eduardo Santos won a tight No. 1 doubles match. The duo won 9-7 in a tiebreaker to get the 9-8 victory. Evgeniy Kim and Miguel Bendito were victorious at No. 3 doubles, winning 8-5.
 
NU dominated in doubles, getting five victories – all in straight sets. Santos won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Dos Santos pulled away for a 6-0, 7-5 win at No. 2 singles. In the No. 3 singles match, Kim got a 6-1, 7-5 victory. Freddy Sanchez cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles. Max Pyle was victorious 6-4, 6-3 at No. 6 singles.
 
The Jets end their conference slate on Sunday (April 6) against Arkansas-Fort Smith in Moore, Okla.
