MOORE, Okla. – The Newman men's tennis fell was downed by Arkansas-Fort Smith, 7-2, on Sunday (April 6). The Jets dropped to 10-10 on the season and 2-4 in the Heartland Conference.
 
NU started by taking one of the three doubles matches. Eduardo Santos and Nei Dos Santos teamed up to get an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles. The Jets dropped the other two doubles matches to fall behind 2-1.
 
In singles play, NU picked up one win. Evgeniy Kim, who was the Heartland Conference Tennis Player of the Week this week, got the lone singles win. He was victorious in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.
 
The Jets had the opportunity to win three other singles matches, but lost in the third set. After splitting the first two sets, Santos lost 10-8 in the third set tiebreaker at No. 1 singles. Dos Santos forced a third set tiebreaker at No. 2 singles, but lost 10-6 in the tiebreaker. After winning the first set, 6-4, Max Pyle went down in the next two sets 6-3, 6-1 to lose at No. 5 singles.
 
NU ends its regular season on April 16 at Emporia State.
