WCIHITA – The Newman volleyball cruised to a 3-0 victory over Oklahoma Panhandle State on Tuesday (Sept. 30) at Fugate Gymnasium. The Lady Jets moved to 6-7 on the season and 3-5 in the Heartland Conference.
The Lady Jets dominated the first set, winning 25-4. NU hit an incredible .516 in the set, totaling 16 kills and zero errors on 31 attempts. The Lady Jets started the set with a 6-0 run and also put together an 8-0 run and another 6-0 run during the first set. The Aggies hit -.156 in set one with two kills and seven errors.
Set two was the closest of the match as NU won 25-17. The Lady Jets help a 22-10 advantage, however, a 7-1 run pulled OPSU to six at 23-17. Attack errors from the Aggies allowed the Lady Jets to score the last two points for the 25-17 score. NU hit .125 for the set.
In the third set, NU rolled to a 25-14 victory. The Lady Jets built a 16-5 edge, and OPSU tried to stay in it with an 8-2 run, however, NU ended the match with a 7-1 spurt to get the set and match win. The Lady Jets hit .306 in the final set with a match-high 17 kills and six errors on 36 attempts.
Alexis Roecker put down a match-high 15 kills with only two errors on 25 attempts. She hit .520. She added six digs, two blocks and one ace.
Lexi Kuharich totaled a match-high 25 assists, and
Anna Burton's 13 digs were also a match high.
The Lady Jets travel to Stephenville, Texas this weekend for two matches on Saturday (Oct. 4). NU plays Tarleton State at 12 p.m. and then takes on Angelo State at 3:30 p.m.
