Box Score WICHITA – The Newman women's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw on Friday (Sept. 5) against William Jewell at Wilkins Field. The Lady Jets moved to 0-0-1 on the season.
Mei-Mei Senthavy scored late in the 87th minute to tie the score at 2-2 and force overtime. Senthavy hit in a rebound on the right side of the box to knot the score. It was her first goal of the season after totaling 11 goals a season ago.
The Cardinals went ahead 2-1 in the 61st minute on a Megan Morgan goal from the left side.
In the first half, NU struck first with a goal from
Jasmine Woodruff in the ninth minute.
Sydney Padilla picked up the assist on the goal.
William Jewell wasted no time to tie the score with a goal in the 11th minute on a shot from 12 yards from Emily Monroe. It was tied 1-1 after the first 45 minutes.
In the two overtime sessions of 10 minutes each, NU outshot WJC 4-2. The Lady Jets had an opportunity in the 107th minute, but
Maricela Ruvalcaba's shot went high to keep the score at 2-2.
Kayleigh Renfro went the 110 minutes in goal, making five saves and allowing two goals. She is 0-0-1 on the season.
NU finished with 13 shots to eight from WJC.
The Lady Jets are back in action on Monday (Sept. 8) against Southwestern College at 7 p.m. at Wilkins Field.
