SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Newman men's basketball team looks to get its first road win of the season today (Jan. 3) at 3 p.m. at St. Mary's at Bill Greehey Arena. Live stats and video are available for the contest.
The Jets suffered a 70-61 loss at Texas A&M International on New Year's Day, as NU struggled from the field, totaling a 28 percentage night.
Cortrael Colbert scored a game-high 19 points.
Ryan McCarthy (12) and
Reggie Baker (10) each scored in double figures as well. NU is currently 5-4 overall and 1-2 in the Heartland Conference. In their two road games, NU is 0-2 with losses at TAMIU and Pittsburg State. Baker, a junior guard, currently leads the team in scoring at 20.4 points per game. He adds 6.6 rebounds per game.
The Rattlers are currently 5-5 and 2-1 in the Heartland Conference. In their most recent game against Oklahoma Christian on New Year's Day, StMU won, 68-50, in San Antonio. Isaiah Matthews totaled a game-high 19 points, and Kriston Minor tallied 14 points. For the season, Marvin Whitt is the only Rattler averaging double digits in points at 13.3 points per game.
NU returns home for two games after today's contest. The Jets take on Lubbock Christian on Thursday (Jan. 8) at 7:30 p.m. inside Fugate Gymnasium.
