Wichita. KS – The Newman University men's basketball team moves to 4-1 on the season with a 92-64 win over Rockhurst.
The Jets held a 52-33 advantage after the first half, with senior
Gavin Thurman leading in scoring with 14 points. In the second half Newman continued their strong play holding the Hawks to just 31 points, while adding 40 of their own. Senior
Cortrael Colbert led the way with 17 points, going a perfect 5-of-5 from the foul line. He shot 6-9 from the field and added 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal. Senior
Gavin Thurman added 16 points, 14 of which came in a blistering first half but only added 2 more in the second half playing only 8 minutes. Senior
Jalen Love put up 11 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal. Senior
James Pegues added 7 points, 1 rebound and 1 steal playing only 11 total minutes after being in foul trouble throughout the game. Junior
Jarvis Williams totaled 4 points and added 1 assist and 1 steal.

Daniel Nwosu made huge impact coming off the bench to add 15 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal. Junior
Taylor Schieber came off the bench to add 11 points including going a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the arc. Senior
Easton Julian came off the bench playing 13 minutes adding 6 points including going a perfect 4-of-4 from the foul line. Julian also led the team in rebounds, totaling 5 for the game.
Newman shot 31-of- 58 (53.4%) from the field. The Jets went 7 –of- 20 (35%) from behind the arc and shot 23 –of- 29 (79.3) from the foul line as a team. The Jets committed 10 turnovers while forcing Rockhurst to commit 11.
Rockhurst shot 18 –of- 51 (35.3%) from the field. The Hawks made only 3 –of- 21 (14.3) from behind the arc and shot 25 –of- 31 (80.6%) from the free throw line as a team. Guard Malachi Nix lead the scoring for the Hawks adding 20 points.
