WICHITA – The Newman men's basketball team scored 72 first-half points en route to a 117-100 win over Livin' the Dream on Saturday (Nov. 7) night in the Jets only exhibition game of the season inside Fugate Gymnasium.
In the first half, the Jets pulled out to a 72-50 halftime advantage and shot 63.6 percent (14-22) from 3-point distance in the first 20 minutes. From the field, NU went 24-of-41 for 58.5 percent.
The Jets cooled off to 41.3 percent (19-46) in the second half to finish the contest at 49.4 percent (43-87) from the field. NU hit 19 3s, going 19-of-40 from deep for 47.5 percent.
Newcomer
Gavin Thurman, who transferred to NU from Missouri State, scored a game-high 24 points. He hit six 3s, going 6-of-8 from 3-point range. He added five rebounds, one steal and one block. Another newcomer,
Jarvis Williams, who transferred from Homes (Miss.) CC, added 19 points and five assists. A total of five Jets were in double figures. Returner
Cortrael Colbert finished with 15 points and five assists.
Daniel Nwosu came off the bench and put in 12 points in only 12 minutes.
Jalen Love, another newcomer, added 10 points and five assists along with a game-high four steals.
A total of 15 Jets appeared in the game with 12 scoring points.
The Jets start the regular season on Nov. 13 in Oklahoma City at Oklahoma Christian. NU plays Cameron at 5:30 p.m. to start the season in OKC.
