Softball Falls Twice on Saturday

DURANT, Okla. - The Newman softball team went 0-2 on Saturday (Feb. 14), falling to Southwestern Oklahoma and host Southeastern Oklahoma. The Jets dropped to 2-4 on the season and play Washburn at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow to end their weekend.

NU scored two runs on homers, but couldn't slow down the Bulldog offense as SWOSU won, 6-2, in the first game.
 
SWOSU started by scoring the first two runs of the game. A single in the third inning made it 1-0. The lead doubled to 2-0 with a double.
 
The Jets pulled to within one at 2-1 with a Taylor Schawe solo homer in the fourth inning.
 
In the sixth inning, SWOSU added two runs with their own home run. The two-run shot made it 4-1 in the sixth inning.
 
NU added its second home run in the sixth inning. Missy Swanson went deep for a 4-2 score.
 
The Bulldogs plated two more runs in the seventh inning. A double scored the first run of the inning, and a single with the bases loaded tallied another SWOSU run for the 6-2 final score.
 
SWOSU totaled 12 hits off NU starter Jensen Cromer. The sophomore pitcher allowed the six runs and struck out seven batters.
 
Schawe and Swanson both went 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored. Kaitlyn Buck was 1-for-2.
 
SEOSU 14, NU 5
 
Southeastern Oklahoma State scored 14 runs in the first three innings to pull away from NU for a 14-5 win in the second game of the day.
 
SEOSU put up five runs in the first inning. The first run scored on a wild pitch. With a runner on, Southeastern homered for a 3-0 advantage. A double down the line scored the fourth run of the inning, and SE stole home for the 5-0 lead.
 
Six more runs scored for SEOSU in the second inning. A double to left field made it 6-0, and another double increased the lead to 7-0. A fielder's choice upped the score to 8-0, and then a two-RBI single pushed Southeastern's lead to 10-0. A single through the infield put SE up, 11-0.
 
In the third inning, SEOSU added three runs. A single down the line brought in two runs, and a double to right center scored one more run for a 14-0 score.
 
The Jets did all of their scoring in one inning, plating five runs in the fourth inning. Cromer singled to right field to score Alyssa Jarman. With the bases loaded, an error allowed Kelsey Jones to score for a 14-2 score. Ellise McGowan singled up the middle to bring in Cromer with the bases loaded. A muffed throw by SEOSU allowed the Jets to score two more runs as both Sarah Morales and Annie Gentry scored for the 14-5 final score.
 
Courtney Sartin went 2-for-3 from the plate. NU totaled five hits.
 
Southeastern Oklahoma finished with 14 hits and 12 RBI. Fourteen runs scored on their 14 hits.
 
NU plays Washburn tomorrow (Feb. 15) at 12:30 p.m. in Durant, Okla.
