ResultsWICHITA – The Newman women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 win over regionally ranked Central Oklahoma on Saturday (Feb. 21) at West Genesis. The Jets are now 6-0 on the spring.
The Jets dominated in doubles competition.
Lisa Pleskan and
Carissa Villaflor rolled to an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles. In the No. 2 doubles match,
Kate Bugayenko and
Ariana Raga also cruised to an 8-3 win. The Jets got the sweep in doubles with an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles by
Courtney Dold and
Tamar Tskhakaia.
In singles competition, NU continued to cruise, winning all its matches in straight sets. Bugayenko defeated Alina Gorina, who is regionally ranked in the top 10 by a score of 6-4, 7-6 (7-1). Pleskan pulled away for a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles. In the No. 3 singles match, Tskhakaia was victorious by a 6-4, 6-2 score.
Hillary Hicks pulled to a 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 4 singles match. Raga made quick work of Olya Burak with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles, and Villaflor won by a 8-6 score at No. 6 singles.
NU starts Heartland Conference action on Friday (Feb. 27) against UA Fort Smith in Fort Smith, Ark. The match starts at 1 p.m.
