                     WICHITA – Newman tennis starts its spring schedule this weekend with two home matches. The Jets take on Tabor College on Saturday (Feb. 7) at 1p.m. and then play Cowley Community College on Sunday (Feb. 8). The Tabor matches are at Riverside and the men's team's match against Cowley at West Genesis at 9 p.m. The women's team plays at Riverside against Cowley at 1 p.m. 
The Lady Jets went 2-0 in the fall season with wins over Emporia State and Truman. NU also went to the Emporia State Tournament, Bethany College Tournament and the ITA South Central Regionals. 
The Jets finished at 2-1 in the fall. After a loss to Emporia State (6-3), NU defeated Truman and Friends. The Jets dominated Truman, pulling to a 9-0 win, and then NU won, 5-4, over rival Friends. The fall season also included appearances at the Emporia State Tournament, Bethany College Tournament and the ITA South Central Regionals. 
In the spring both teams have new players. The Lady Jets added 
Tamar Tskhakaia, a sophomore from Batumi, Georgia. She is a 5-9 sophomore transfer from ASA College. 
The men's team added Zurab Tskhakaia, a junior from Batumi Georgia. He is a junior transfer from ASA College. Also new to the men's team is Jose Alejandro Gonzalez, a sophomore transfer from Seward County Community College. He is from San Salvador, El Salvador. 
This weekend is the first two of five straight home matches for both programs.
