ResultsWICHITA – The Newman men's tennis team started the spring season with an easy 9-0 win over Tabor College on Saturday (Feb. 7) at Riverside Park. The Jets moved to 1-0 in the spring.
NU started with three dominating wins in doubles competition. At No. 1 doubles,
Eduardo Santos and
Freddy Sanchez teamed up to get an 8-0 win. The No. 2 doubles match went the same way with an 8-0 victory by
Alejandro Gonzalez and
Diego Rojo Fernandez. In the No. 3 doubles match,
Jose Enrique Coiras and
Zurab Tskhakaia won by an 8-1 score.
The Jets also dominated in the singles competition, winning all six courts in straight sets.
Evgeniy Kim won by a 6-1, 6-2 score over Luis Navarette of Tabor. In the No. 2 singles match, Sanchez pulled to a 6-0, 6-1 victory. In No. 3-6 singles, the Jets won all four matches by the score of 6-0, 6-0. Fernandez was victorious at No. 4 singles. In the No. 5 singles match,
Jeff Wherritt won, and at No. 6 singles,
Max Pyle got the victory.
NU is back in action tomorrow (Sunday) at 9 a.m. against Cowley College. The match is at West Genesis.
