ResultsMIDLAND, Texas – The No. 46-ranked Newman women's tennis team moved to 12-0 with a 6-3 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday (March 14) at the Bush Tennis Center.
The Jets started the match by winning two of the three doubles courts. At No. 1 doubles,
Lisa Pleskan and
Carissa Villaflor won a close 9-7 decision over Mariaxi Herrera and Marija Dimitrovska.
Kate Bugayenko and
Hillary Hicks pulled out to an 8-2 victory at No. 2 doubles over Nadia Grlj and Tabata Lua. In the No. 3 doubles match,
Tamar Tskhakaia and
Courtney Dold lost by an 8-2 score to Paula Saenz and Erika Larrea.
NU continued to control the match by winning four of the six singles matches. Pleskan got a straight set 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles over Grlj. At No. 3 singles, Tskhakaia won the first set by a 6-2 score, but then lost set two, 6-4. She got the victory with a 6-2 win in the third set. Hicks pulled out to a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles over Lua. Villaflor was also victorious in straight sets. She won by the score of 6-3, 6-1. Bugayenko suffered her first loss at No. 1 singles, going down to regionally ranked Herrera 6-4, 6-1. In the No. 5 singles match, Dold fell in a tight three-set match. She lost the first set, 6-2, but then won 6-4 in the second. In the third set, Dold fell by a 10-6.
The Jets return to Heartland Conference action tomorrow (March 15) at Texas-Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas.
