ResultsMIDLAND, Texas – The Newman men's tennis team moved to 2-0 in the Heartland Conference with a 7-2 win at Texas-Permian Basin on Sunday (March 15). The Jets went to 11-4 on the season.
NU started by winning all three doubles courts.
Eduardo Santos and
Alejandro Gonzalez teamed up for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles. In the No. 2 doubles match,
Jose Enrique Coiras and
Evgeniy Kim cruised to an 8-1 victory. With an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles, the Jets got the sweep.
Max Pyle and
Freddy Sanchez got the win at No. 3 doubles.
In the singles competition, the Jets won the first four courts, all in straight sets. Santos pulled out to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles. In No. 2 singles, Gonzalez made quick work of Thomas Rice, winning by a 6-0, 6-1 score. Kim was victorious at No. 3 singles by a 6-4, 7-5 score.
Diego Rojo Fernandez won at No. 4 singles by the score of 6-4, 6-4. NU lost the final two courts. Coiras fell to Caio Aguiar at No. 5 singles by a 6-1, 7-5 score. In the No. 6 singles match,
Max Pyle went down by a 6-3, 6-2 score to Mateus Munhoz.
The Jets return home for five straight matches. NU plays Bethel College on March 19 at 2 p.m. at Riverside.
