WICHITA – The No. 46-ranked Newman women's tennis team made it two straight matches with 9-0 victory with a win over Metro State on Wednesday (March 25) at Riverside Park. The Jets moved to 15-1, and they have beaten both Friends and Metro State by 9-0 scores since their only loss of the season.
It was all Jets from the start as NU won all three singles courts.
Lisa Pleskan and
Carissa Villaflor cruised to an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles. In the No. 2 doubles match,
Hillary Hicks and
Kate Bugayenko pulled out to an 8-2 victory. The wins kept coming as
Ariana Raga and
Courtney Dold were victorious by an 8-4 score at No. 3 doubles.
The Jets won all six singles courts in straight sets. Bugayenko, who is regionally ranked No. 17 in the latest South Central poll, dominated in a 6-1, 6-1 win over Courtney Wright at No. 1 singles. Pleskan, who is right behind Bugayenko in the rankings at No. 20, won by a 6-4, 7-5 score over Kasey Love at No. 2 singles. In the No. 3 singles match,
Tamar Tskhakaia returned from injury to get a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Haleigh Chobanian. Hicks was victorious by a 6-3, 7-5 score at No. 4 singles over Ana-Jelena Vugosevic. In the No. 5 singles match, Dold rolled to a 6-3, 6-0 victory, and Raga blanked Kaitlyn Miller by a 6-0, 6-0 score at No. 6 singles.
