SALINA, Kan. – The Newman women's tennis team ran its winning streak to three straight matches with a dominating 9-0 win at Kansas Wesleyan on Tuesday (March 31). The Jets moved to 16-1 on the season.
NU started with a sweep at doubles.
Carissa Villaflor and
Lisa Pleskan got an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles, and
Hillary Hicks and
Kate Bugayenko were victorious by an 8-1 score at No. 2 doubles. In the No. 3 doubles match,
Ariana Raga and
Courtney Dold rolled to an 8-0 victory.
The Jets kept the strong play going in singles competition with six wins, all in straight sets. Bugayenko cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles. Pleskan continued her strong play with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. In the No. 3 singles match, Hicks pulled out to a 6-1, 6-0 win. Dold dominated at No. 4 singles, winning 6-0, 6-0. At No. 5 singles, Raga got a quick 6-1, 6-1 victory. Villaflor got a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.
The women's tennis team returns home for two straight matches. NU plays Bethel College on Thursday (April 2) at 4 p.m. at Riverside Park.
