GOODWELL, Okla. – The Newman softball drop lost game three at Oklahoma Panhandle State, 7-6, on Saturday (April 11) to lose the three-game series. The two teams split yesterday's doubleheader. With the loss, the Jets fell to 11-30 and 6-12 in the Heartland Conference.
NU gained an early 3-0 edge in the first inning.
Kelsey Jones singled to center field to plate three runs.
Breanna Pingry,
Kaitlyn Buck and
Mikayla Medbery all scored on the play.
OPSU got on the scoreboard with a solo home run to pull to within two at 3-1 after one inning.
The Aggies again used the long ball in the third inning, hitting a grand slam home run to go up 5-3.
In the fourth inning,
Kassidy Furr hit an infield single to score
Madison Bish to pull NU to within one run at 5-4.
OPSU once again responded, scoring two runs in the fifth inning on a single to center field. The two-RBI single increased the Aggie edge to 7-4.
The Jets tried to rally in the seventh inning, but came up one run short. Jones singled to left field to plate two runs to make it 7-6.
Sarah Morales and Medbery scored on the play. With a runner in scoring position, a groundout ended the game.
Jones went 2-for-4 with five RBI, and
Courtney Sartin was 2-for-4.
NU returns home for a doubleheader on Monday (April 13) against Fort Hays State at 4 p.m. at the Newman Softball Field. Live stats will be available.
