WICHITA – The Newman softball team lost both games of a doubleheader against St. Edward's on Saturday (April 18) at the Newman Softball Field. The Jets dropped to 13-34 and 6-14 in the Heartland Conference. 
St. Edward's 9, Newman 0 
The Hilltoppers got the game one victory by the score of 9-0. Sarah Debrow held the Jets hitless in 7 innings and struck out six. 
In the first inning, SEU plated three runs. An RBI single made it 1-0 and then a two-run homer increased the edge to 3-0. A single in the third inning put the Hilltoppers up 4-0, and then a sac fly in the fifth inning made it 5-0. 
Another sacrifice fly in the sixth inning upped the SEU lead to 6-0. An infield single put the Hilltoppers in front, 7-0. A two-run home run in the seventh inning put the visitors up, 9-0. 
SEU totaled 11 hits. 
St. Edward's 5, Newman 4 
In the nightcap, the Jets gained a 4-0 advantage, but SEU used three home runs, including a three-run homer, to come back and get the 5-4 victory. 
Courtney Sartin started the scoring with an infield single to plate 
Taylor Mannis for the 1-0 NU lead in the first inning. The Jets added three runs in the third inning to pull out to a 4-0 advantage. A double to left field by 
Kaitlyn Buck scored 
Mikayla Medbery for the 2-0 score. The lead grew to 3-0 on a 
Kelsey Jones double to left field. Buck scored on the RBI double. An error by SEU allowed Jones to score for the 4-0 edge. 
The Hilltoppers started the fourth inning with back-to-back solo home runs to cut the deficit to two at 4-2. In the fifth inning, SEU hit a three-run homer to take a 5-4 edge. 
SEU brought Debrow back in to pitch the final 3 innings. She shutout the NU offense and struck out four Jets. 
Medbery went 3-for-4 with one run scored. The top eight of the NU lineup all had at least one hit. 
The three-game series is scheduled to conclude tomorrow (April 19) at 12 p.m. at the Newman Softball Field.
