WICHITA – The No. 46-ranked Newman women's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 win over Fort Hays State on Saturday (April 18) at West Genesis in its final home match. Seniors
Lisa Pleskan,
Carissa Villaflor,
Hillary Hicks and
Courtney Dold all went 2-0 in their final home matches.
The Jets started by sweeping doubles competition, 3-0. The regionally ranked duo of Pleskan and Villaflor pulled out to an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles. Hicks and
Kate Bugayenko picked up an 8-4 victory at No. 2 doubles. In the No. 3 doubles match, Dold and
Ariana Raga got an 8-3 win.
NU dominated in singles competition, winning all six matches in straight sets. Bugayenko, who is ranked No. 17 in the South Central Region, won by a 6-2, 6-0 score at No. 1 singles. Pleskan, who is ranked No. 20 in the region, got a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles. In the No. 3 singles match, Dold was victorious by a 6-1, 6-3 score. Hicks cruised to a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles. Raga rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the No. 5 singles match. At No. 6 singles, Villaflor picked up an 8-1 win.
The Jets finish the 2014-15 regular season at 18-4. NU now prepares for the Heartland Conference Tournament on April 24-26 in Dallas, Texas.
