WACO, Texas – Junior women's tennis player
Kate Bugayenko was named the Heartland Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, announced today (April 20) by the Heartland Conference. It's the first player of the week honors earned by the Newman women's tennis team this season.
Bugayenko, a junior from Luiv, Ukraine, went 2-0 on Saturday (April 18) to lead the Jets to a 9-0 win over Fort Hays State on Senior Day. At No. 1 singles, Bugayenko rolled to a 6-2, 6-0 win over FHSU's Camille Caron-Bedard. And paired with
Hillary Hicks, the duo won, 8-4, at No. 2 doubles. The junior is ranked No. 17 in the South Central Region and went 14-4 at No. 1 singles this season. Paired with Hicks, the two went 12-0 at both No. 1 and 2 doubles.
NU finished the regular season at 18-4 overall and ranked No. 46 in the ITA National Rankings. The Jets are ranked No. 6 in the South Central Region.
