DALLAS – The Newman men's tennis team came up just short in its quest to upset No. 1-seeded St. Edward's on Saturday (April 25) at the Jets fell, 5-3, to the Hilltoppers.
NU fell into an early 2-1 hole after doubles competition. The Jets got their lone doubles win at No. 3 doubles as
Evgeniy Kim and
Max Pyle cruised to a victory.
The Jets need to win four of the six singles matches, and had a late. NU trailed by a score of 4-3, but the final two courts were very close that could have gone either way. The Hilltoppers clinched the win with a victory at No. 4 singles by Maximo Agoglia over NU's
Diego Rojo Fernandez.
At No. 2 singles,
Alejandro Gonzalez rolled to a 6-4, 6-3 win. The Jets also got a win at No. 5 singles as
Freddy Sanchez got the victory, and the No. 6 singles match went unfinished.
Eduardo Santos lost at No. 1 singles by a 6-0, 6-4 score. At No. 3 singles, SEU won by a 6-3, 6-0 score, over Kim.
The Jets finished the season at 17-10 and ranked in the South Central Region.
