JOPLIN, Mo. – For the first time this season, the Newman women's soccer team goes on the road to Missouri Southern to take on the Lions on Saturday (Sept. 12) at 3 p.m. Live stats are available for the contest.
The Jets are currently 1-1-1 on the season after defeating East Central on Wednesday (Sept. 9) by a 1-0 score. NU started the season with a 1-1 tie against Oklahoma Christian and fell to Oklahoma Baptist, 2-1. Junior forward
Morgan Foster has scored all three goals for the Jets this season. She's the first player in NU history to score in each of her first three games.
Harriet Jakeman and
Aliya Marshall each have an assist.
Kelsi Langley has started in two of the three games in goal. She has a 0.73 goals against average with 17 saves and one shutout. Langley has a .895 save percentage.
The Lions are 1-2 on the season and 1-0 at home. In their most recent contest, the Lions defeated Rogers State, 6-1. MSSU started with a loss at Drury and to Missouri S&T. Karley Thomas leads the team with one goal and two assists. Hannah Bomar, Bailey North, Carly Cecil and Hannah Cook all have scored this season. Shawnee Phillips has started all three games in goal. She's allowed 2.00 goals per game with 11 saves.
After this weekend, the Jets go to Washburn on Wednesday (Sept. 16) for a 6 p.m. contest in Topeka, Kan.
