WICHITA, Kan. — Facing off against a hot-hitting opponent, the Newman women's volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-20) to Lubbock Christian Thursday night at Fugate Gymnasium.

KEY SEQUENCE

The Jets (15-9, 4-4 Heartland) were playing their best volleyball of the night early in the third set, looking to mount a comeback. Up 15-14 after a 6-3 run, the hosts saw the Chaparrals (13-9, 6-2 Heartland) take off on a five-point run that gave them the lead and allowed them finish off the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Set 1

-Kills from Kayla Turner and Jarin Braithwait tied things up at 4-4 early, and the teams went back and forth for the next few points, with kills from Emily Harvey and Alexis Roecker helping to tie things at 7-7.

-LCU went on a run to take control, but Newman picked up two kills each from Turner and Harvey to inch back into it, getting as close as 17-13.

Set 2

-The Chaps got an impressive start to the second set, but Newman began gathering some rhythm with Braithwait and Turner each chipping a kill to key a three-point run.

-Kills from Hailey Braddy and Harvey around a big block from Turner and Yemima Buana made it a 7-3 run and cut LCU's lead to 19-12 in the middle of the set.

Set 3

-After a quick start from the Chaps, two thunderous blocks from Turner and Buana, as well as kills out of Aliya Higginbotham, Braddy and Harvey, helped the Jets to tie things up at 8-8.

-Kills from Higginbotham and Turner around an LCU error gave Newman a 12-11 lead, and one more from Higginbotham a few points later made it 14-14 before the guests went on their run to take control.

NOTES

-There were seven ties and four lead changes in the third set as the Jets and Chaps went head-to-head for long stretches.

-Turner had six kills and six digs to go with her 15 assists. Braddy chipped in five kills, and Braithwait four, whileBrook Conley, Andrea Wheeler and Higginbotham each put up four digs.
