Box Score COMMERCE, Texas – After playing late last night in the first round of the Lone Star/Heartland Challenge, the Newman men's basketball team took on the host team Texas A&M-Commerce and held a lead at halftime but couldn't sustain it during the second half, falling 88-75 Saturday afternoon.
KEY SEQUENCE
The Jets (0-2) trailed 68-65 with 8:46 remaining in the second half but the Lions (2-0) would heat up from the field and the line, going on a 16-0 run over a five-minute span to give themselves an 84-65 lead with three minutes remaining in the contest to hang on for the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Pierre Hayden would score Newman's first points of the game with a jumper at the 19:18 mark and a little while later Hayden would hit back-to-back three pointers to tie the game up at 10-10 with 15:30 remaining in the first half of play.
-The Jets would get their first lead of the game when
Kevin Bryant hit a jumper to put Newman out in front at 12-11 with 14:51 in the first half.
-Newman would get its biggest lead of the first half when
Christian DeYoung scored a basket to put the score at 34-28 with 5:21 in the first half.
-With less than a minute remaining in the first half of play the Jets were up by one point but an
Allen Wilson three pointer would push the Newman lead to 44-40 heading into halftime.
-Coming out of halftime
Daniel Green would score eight-straight points for Newman to give them its biggest lead of the game at 52-45 with 18:02 remaining in the game.
-The Jets were down by three points with 8:46 on the clock after a
Daniel Nwosu, Jr. jumper but TAMUC would buckle down on defense and hit shots during a five-minute 16-0 run that would put the score at 84-65 late in the game. The Lions would hang on and win the game 88-75 over Newman.

Allen Wilson put together a nice game with 10 points (2-of-3 from three), three assists and two rebounds in his second game as a Jet.
-While being the leading scorer for Newman, Green also contributed by being the second leading rebounder on the team with six rebounds.

Having three days to recuperate from traveling, the Jets will once again hit the road and head to Pittsburg, Kansas to take on the Gorillas Tuesday evening.
