WICHITA, Kan. – The Newman volleyball team came back home to Fugate Gymnasium this evening to begin its three-game homestand to close out the regular season by sweeping Texas A&M International 3-0 (25-11, 25-11, 25-15).
 
KEY SEQUENCE 
 
After winning the first set handily, the Jets (19-9, 8-4 Heartland) trailed 3-2 early in the second set to the Dustdevils (2-21, 2-10 Heartland) but went on an 11-point run to open things up at 13-3 halfway through Set 2 and didn't look back the rest of the set or match, eventually sweeping Texas A&M International 3-0.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
 
Set 1
 
-The Jets jumped out to an early 2-0 with the first point coming from a Texas A&M International service error and then an 
Aliya Higginbotham service ace, which put Newman out in front the rest of the way throughout the first set.
 
-Newman lead 8-5 but went on a four-point run to open things up at 12-5. A kill from 
Alexis Roecker and 
Hailey Braddy, along with an error from a Dustdevil player and a block from 
Yemima Buana and Roecker made that run for the Jets.
 
-The Jets would close out Set 1 on a seven-point run to win the set 25-11. Three kills from 
Kayla Turner and one from 
Kaci Copeland, along with three Texas A&M International errors helped secure the set victory for Newman.
 
-As a team in the first set, the Jets had an impressive .423 hitting percentage to open the match up.
 
Set 2
 
-The Jets trailed early on at 3-2 but went on an 11-point run to blow the set up and put the score at 13-3. Two kills from 
Emily Harvey and Turner, plus one kill from 
Jarin Braithwait, along with seven Dustdevil errors helped keep Newman stay in front the rest of the set.
 
- Newman would go right back on another run of its own but this time it was only a five-point run to push the lead out to 18-4. The Jet run in total came from two kills from Turner and kills a piece from Harvey and Braithwait along with a single error from Texas A&M International.
 
-A kill from Harvey ended Set 2 at 25-11.
 
-The Jets yet again had an impressive hitting percentage but this time at .344.
 
Set 3
 
-Newman jumped out to an early 7-2 lead, getting help from four Dustdevil errors, plus kills from 
Sarah Peterson and Turner, along with a block from Buana and Turner to open up Set 2.
 
-The Jets would extend their lead out to 15-5 by going on a five-point run halfway through the set. A kill from Roecker and an ace from Braithwait, along with three Texas A&M International errors made up that Newman run.
 
-Newman would once again go on another run to extend its lead further but this time it was a six-point run. Two kills from Buana and kills a piece for Roecker, Turner and Braddy, along with an ace from 
Brook Conley helped extend the Jet lead out to 21-10.
 
-
Laura Hageman ended the set and match with a kill, giving the Jets a 25-15 victory over the Dustdevils in the final set.

-With the win the Jets are on a four-match winning streak. It's the third time this season Newman has been on equal run.
 
-The win this evening combined with losses from teams below the Jets in the conference standings, has wrapped up a bid to the Heartland Conference postseason tournament for Newman.
 
-This is the third season in a row that the Jets will play in the Heartland Conference postseason tournament.
