WICHITA, Kan. – The Newman women's basketball team was firing on cylinders throughout Thursday evening's game, shooting the ball well and swarming on defense to help bring home an 88-42 victory over Central Christian.
KEY SEQUENCE
The Jets (7-2) didn't take long to get things started in the first quarter of play, getting out to a 14-0 lead in the first few minutes of the game and didn't look back as they overwhelmed the Tigers (4-5) throughout the remainder of the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Mali Wright would score the first basket of the contest with a jumper with 9:47 on the clock, then Newman would precede to score the next 12 points to get out to a 14-0 lead early in the contest.

Melanie George would score the Jets final basket in the first quarter with 1:06 remaining, Newman would go into the second quarter with a 16-4 lead.
-Central Christian would get the score to 20-10 in the second quarter but that's the closest they would get throughout the rest of the game.
-The Jets would go on a 19-3 run to get out to a 39-13 lead with 3:39 remaining in the second quarter and during the run Newman hit three 3-pointers with two coming from
Bria DeGrate and one from
Hannah Alexander.

Iva Krstevska 3-pointer with 11 seconds left in the first half would put the score at 47-16 but a Tiger player would put up a half-court shot that would fall at the buzzer to make the score 47-19 heading into halftime.

Cierra Tjaden scored the first Newman basket of the second half, while DeGrate added back-to-back 3-pointers to put the score at 63-28 with 4:02 left in the third quarter.

Natalia Hausmann was the last Jet basket of the third quarter, which Newman took a 69-32 lead into the final quarter of play.

Kendra Butler scored eight points in the final quarter of play to close out the 88-42 victory in favor of the Jets.
