WICHITA, Kan. — Getting back on the road, and back to NCAA competition, the Newman men's and women's tennis teams head to Missouri this weekend to face tough competition in the form of Lewis and Drury.
All matches will take place at Drury, with the Jets facing Lewis at noon on Saturday before turning around to take on the Panthers Sunday at 10 a.m.
The Jet women (3-1), who have won two of their first three matches to start the spring campaign, take on their first nationally-ranked opponent of the season in No. 30 Drury. The Panthers held steady in the first rankings of the spring, and are fourth in the Midwest Region, while Lewis is eighth in the region.
Drury (4-0) doesn't have any singles or doubles teams in the ITA national rankings as of the last release after the fall season, while the Flyers (2-0) top doubles team of Dora Andrejszki and Nora Mindiyarova are No. 5 in the nation.
The No. 35 Jet men (2-1) will get their own test, as the Panthers (3-1) are ranked No. 37 in the nation after dropping from 15th after the fall season. The Flyers (2-1) only loss came to a ranked team in Ferris State. Drury is No. 2 in the Midwest, while Lewis comes in eighth.
Drury's Max Hepp is ranked 18th in the country in singles, while Lewis' Mate Srdanovic is 50th. Newman's Eduardo Santos is 25th after those fall rankings. The Jets' two opponents each feature a top-six doubles team, with the Panthers offering up No. 4 Hepp and Kay Bartmann, and the Flyers putting out No. 6 Srdanovic and Alan Braschinsky.
