Jets Travel To Pratt For Final Nonconference Dual

WICHITA, Kan. — Getting its final week before the attention turns to the postseason going, the Newman wrestling team makes the short trip to Pratt Community College for a 7 p.m. dual meet Thursday night.

The Jets (1-7) are looking for their second dual meet victory of the season in their final competition of the season against anyone outside of Division II, with only a dual against MIAA foe Fort Hays State left on the schedule before the MIAA Championships Feb. 14.

Despite being in the same tournament field as the Beavers on two different occasions this year, the Jets have seen limited action against them, with Heath Gray earning a 12-4 major over Jose Cortez at the Kansas Cup and Zach Duwe pinning Mason McCarty at the Swede Open early in the season. Pratt is ranked 21st as a team in NJCAA by Intermat, with Andrew Beck ranked fourth in the nation at 149 pounds.

The two sides have met in three of the past four seasons and seven times overall, with the Jets leading the all-time series 5-2. Newman has won each of the past four matchups, winning by an average score of 28-16.
