Jace Fisher qualifies for Wrestling National Championships

Fisher set to compete on March 14 in Indianapolis

WICHITA- Jace Fisher qualified for Nationals after placing third at NCAA Super Regional IV on March 1st. This is the second time in Fisher's career that he has qualified for Nationals. The National Championships will be held March 14th - March 15th in Indianapolis, Indiana. 
 
Fisher's Regionals Recap:
Fisher won in his first round in dominating fashion by technical fall at 18-2 over Jack Golowenski of Ouachita Baptist. Then in the quarterfinals, Fisher took his second win of the day by major decision at 11-2 over Shane Bates of Indianapolis. In the semifinals, Hunter Jump of Central Oklahoma handed fisher his first loss of the day by just one point at a 4-3 decision. This loss pushed Fisher to the consolation semifinals where he battled out a win by decision over Conner Johnston of Central Missouri at 4-3. This win put Fisher in the third place match where he would need a win to punch his ticket to Nationals. In the third place match, Fisher again battled in his win by decision over Will Kuster of Drury. With the third place win, Fisher punched his ticket to Nationals. 
 
Fisher's Season Recap:
Fisher snagged his first win of the season in the dual against Sioux Falls where he dominated in his win by technical fall at 20-5. Then, in the dual against Upper Iowa, Fisher took his record to 2-0 with a 7-2 decision win. In his first tournament of the season, at the UCM Open, Fisher placed first in 165 lb. He had two technical fall wins, a win by decision, and a major decision win on his journey to first place. The Jets then hosted a No. 2 ranked Central Oklahoma squad for their MIAA home opener. Though the Bronchos were talented, Fisher dominated in his weight class with a 20-3 technical fall win. Fisher then took another first place finish at the Jet Open. In the Jet Open, Fisher took his first win by fall at 1:45. He then won in the quarterfinals by technical fall at 18-0. In the semifinals he won his match by major decision at 15-5. Then in the 1st Place match, Fisher dominated with a technical fall win at 21-6. Fisher's next win came at the Jet Duals where the Jets faced Ouachita Baptist first. Fisher dominated once again, taking his match by technical fall at 15-0 helping Newman take the dual at 23-21. Newman's second dual was against Drury. The team fell just short at 28-21, but Fisher was able to secure a victory with a sudden victory. Later in the season against Labette CC, Fisher helped the Jets secure a win by winning his match by fall at 4:07. Another technical fall win for Fisher came against Friends University, where he snagged a 20-3 win in the dual against the Falcons. The Jets then faced No. 21 ranked Central Missouri in their last dual of the season. Fisher was able to end his dual season with a win by major decision at 14-3. 

Fisher recorded 78 take downs, 38 escapes, and scored a total of 108.5 team points in 2024-2025. This season, Fisher recorded five wins by fall, ten technical fall wins, five major decision wins, and five wins by decision. He has brought in a total of 27 wins, with a total of 339 match points. 
 
Nationals Information 
The DII Wrestling National Championships will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana from March 14- March 15 at the Corteva Coliseum. All qualifiers were announced on March 2nd. fisher will first take on Jack Haskin of Lake Erie on March 14 in the morning. 
 
The DII Wrestling National Championships are part of the DII Championships Festival this year. The National Championships Festival is an Olympic-Style event where a number of national championships are held at a single site over multiple days.The festival will have opening and closing ceremonies that will be conducted away from the competition venue. The ceremonies celebrate the camaraderie and closeness within the Division II family, in addition to the athletic skills that will be/have been on display throughout the week. After the opening ceremonies, Swim & Dive kicks off the Festival on Tuesday, March 11 and runs through Saturday, March 15. Indoor Track & Field begins Thursday, March 13 and runs through Saturday, March 15. Then the closing ceremonies will take place on Saturday, March 15 to end the event. The Wrestling schedule is listed below, with the morning of March 14 being the first day of competition.

DII Wrestling National Championship History 
The DII Wrestling National Championship dates back to 1963, skipping 2020 due to COVID-19, with the first-ever championship trophy going to Western State. Cal State, Cal Poly Bakersfield are tied for second with eight national titles. Central Oklahoma captured its ninth title last season, making it the winningest team in championship history. The Bronchos will look to three-peat this season after winning the team championship in 2023 and 2024.

Dustin Reed brought home the team's first NCAA All-American honor by finishing fifth at 125 pounds at the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships in 2016, and followed that up with a seventh-place finish in 2017. Tyler Mies joined Torres as an All-American in 2018, finishing sixth and helping the Jets to a 12th-place finish at the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships. The Jets captured their first and only NCAA Champion in 2018 when Noel Torres won the 184-pound class. In 2019, Kameron Frame joined this elite group finishing sixth and Tyler Mies secured his second All-American honor by finishing fifth while the Jets once again placed in the top twenty at the national championships. Frame and Tyler Lawley were named All-Americans when the COVID-19 pandemic canceled that year's championship.
