WICHITA, Kan. — Facing the highest-ranked team it has all season, the Newman men's tennis team fell to 14th-ranked Northwest Missouri State 7-2 Tuesday morning at East Genesis Health Club.
The No. 35 Jets (5-8) top doubles team of Eduardo Santos and Alejandro Gonzalez picked up a nice win to get the hosts started, topping the team of Sergi Fontcuberta and Alvaro Riveros, who came into the match ranked seventh in the Central Region for the Bearcats (7-1), by a score of 8-5.
Andre Ebinal picked up the Jets' other point, earning a three-set victory at No. 3 singles, going into tiebreaks in all three sets, winning 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (5-7), 1-0 (10-6) over Sergi Fontcuberta.
The Jets finish off a long stretch of matches with an exhibition against Friends Thursday afternoon.
