WICHITA, Kan. — Starting off a final stretch of three matches for each over eight days to close the regular season, the Newman men's and women's tennis teams head to take on in-state foes in nonconference matchups this weekend.
The Jet women (14-5) are coming off an 8-1 victory over Emporia State Tuesday that saw them pick up wins at in all three doubles matches and cruise to straight-set wins in five singles tilts.
They'll face Fort Hays State (7-11), which has lost four straight and eight of its last nine, including a 9-0 loss to Emporia State a week ago, in a noon match Saturday.
The Newman men (6-10) get an extra day off, heading to Topeka on Sunday for a 1 p.m. meeting with Washburn (12-4).
The Ichabods are ranked No. 25 in the country, making it a third straight ranked opponent for the Jets.
