LAWTON, Okla. — Needing one more victory to ensure another trip to the Heartland Conference postseason, the Newman men's tennis team finished off its league season with a 7-0 victory over Texas-Permian Basin Friday afternoon.
The Jets (8-11, 3-2 Heartland) faced a tough challenge in doubles, as Alejandro Gonzalez and Ajani King worked for a 9-7 win at No. 2, and Andre Ebinal and Diego Romo Fernandez earning an 8-6 victory.
Ebinal continued to battle in singles, fighting for a 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-6) win at No. 3. That came in between straight-set wins by Gonzalez at No. 1, Eduardo Santos at No. 2 and Fernandez at No. 4.
Newman finishes out its regular season with a match Saturday at Cameron.
