LAWTON, Okla. — Closing out their regular seasons with matchups against top-20 teams, the Newman men's and women's tennis teams each fell to Cameron Saturday afternoon.
The Jet men (8-12) stuck right with the No. 12 Aggies (18-5) throughout much of the 7-2 match, earning a win at No. 2 doubles from Ajani King and Alejandro Gonzalez to get things started. Diego Rojo Fernandez earned the team's second point with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles, while Gonzalez and Eduardo Santos each fell in tough three-set matches.
The Jet women (15-6) had some tough luck in an 8-0 loss to the No. 17 Aggies (19-3), as the hosts swept doubles before keeping the pressure on throughout singles.
Both Newman squads await their opponent in this weekend's Heartland Conference Tournament, hosted at the SMU Tennis Center in Dallas.
