WICHITA, Kan. – The Newman volleyball team heads home for a weekday nonconference match against Bethel College inside Fugate Gymnasium Tuesday evening.
RECAP OF THE WEEKEND
The Jets (6-3 overall) went to the 2016 New Victorian Inn and Suites/Runza Fall Classic in Kearney, Nebraska, where they went 3-1 over the weekend. To open up the tournament NU faced the Yellow Jackets of Black Hills State and won the match 3-2 (21-25, 32-30, 24-26, 39-37, 15-13). The Jets also found themselves in the record books because of the fourth set of the match and the combined 76 points scored by both teams, which is now the highest scoring individual set in NCAA Division II history. Also, because NU scored a total of 131 in the entire match against BHSU that also became a new NCAA record for the most points scored in a match across all divisions.
Newman would face the Marauders of the University of Mary and sweep them 26-24, 25-22, 25-14 in the second match of the tournament to wrap-up Day 1. The Jets would face off against the Rangers of Northwestern Oklahoma State in Day 2 and the third match of tournament and beat them 3-1 by going 25-12, 25-12, 23-25, 25-15 in four sets. NU would fall in the final match of the tournament to the host Nebraska-Kearney 3-0 to close out the tournament.
