WICHITA, Kan. – The Newman volleyball team came out determined this evening against Bethel college and ended up with its second nonconference victory at home this season by sweeping the match 3-0.
KEY SEQUENCE
The Jets (7-3 overall) took an early 8-3 lead in Set 1 against the Threshers (0-5 overall) and then went on a seven point run with three points coming from
Kayla Turner aces. NU would go on to win Set 1 in dominating fashion and not hold back throughout the remaining two sets, winning the match (25-7, 25-12, 25-11) decisively.
Set 1
-The Jets controlled the entire set, by having leads of 2-0, 7-1, 8-2, 15-3, 18-4, 21-5 and 25-7.
-Newman was lead by
Emily Harvey in kills with 6 for the first set.
-Turner had three aces that kicked started the Jets into a deep run.
Set 2
-Bethel had two leads in the set at 2-1 and 3-2 but that wouldn't faze NU because they would jump out to a commanding 18-7 and eventually get its biggest lead of the set out to 24-10 before winning it 25-12.
-The Jets were lead by
Aliya Higginbotham in kills with 4 for the second set.
-There was four tie scores and two lead changes in the second set.
Set 3
-The Jets never trailed in the set, coming out to a 3-0 start and eventually taking it to 10-3 early on, with help from
Alexis Roecker and her three kills during a six-point stretch for NU.
-Newman would power past the Threshers to win the final set of the evening 25-11, with Roecker leading the way for the Jets in kills with 7.

-This was the third straight victory over Bethel in the past three seasons for the Jets.
