Newman To Face Off Against Bacone College

WICHITA, Kan. – The Newman volleyball team heads back home after its final weekend tournament of the season to also play its final home nonconference match against Bacone College at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening.
 
RECAP OF THE WEEKEND
 
The Jets (10-4 overall) went 3-1 over the weekend at the 2016 Peggy Martin Crossover Challenge in Warrensburg, Missouri. Newman faced Southern Arkansas and Henderson State in Day 1 of the tournament. Newman came out hot offensively and swept Southern Arkansas 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-16) to take match one of the tournament. The Jets would close out Day 1 by facing Henderson State later in the afternoon and once again came out victorious by winning the match 3-1 (25-22, 25-11, 22-25, 25-20) over the Reddies.
 
To start Day 2 of the tournament the Jets would be tested early in the morning by taking on Arkansas Tech. NU would hold onto win the contested match 3-2 (25-21, 17-25, 30-28, 18-25, 17-15) over the Golden Suns. Newman would face the host team Central Missouri in the finale of the tournament. The Jennies would take down the Jets in the finale 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-16), which ended NU's four-game winning streak.
 
Anna Burton earned a spot on the all-tournament team, going for 4.80 per set over the four matches.

NOTES
 
-This will be the third year in-a-row that the Jets will take on Bacone College. NU has swept both of previous two matches, with a victory at home in 2015 and a road win in Muskogee, Oklahoma in 2014.
-Newman as a team is still leading the Heartland Conference in these categories, hitting percentage (.207), assists (682), assists per set (13.12), kills (735), kills per set (14.13), digs (1050) and digs per set (20.19).
-Harvey still leads the conference in kills at 169 but is second in kills per set at 3.45. Braddy is third in kills per set at 3.17 and fourth in kills with 114.
-Braithwait is third in the conference in hitting percentage at .286 and Yemima Buana is right behind in fourth with a .279 hitting percentage.
-Conley is still leading the conference in assists at 458 and assists per set with 10.41.
-Buana is the conference leader in blocks with 45 and Burton still leads the conference in digs with 269.
