WICHITA, Kan. – After playing a slew of nonconference matches to start the season the Newman volleyball team gets set for its first action in Heartland Conference play this weekend, heading to Oklahoma Panhandle State Thursday and Lubbock Christian Saturday.
SCOUTING NEWMAN
The Jets (11-4 overall) won their final home nonconference match last night against Bacone College 3-0 and attended the 2016 Peggy Martin Crossover Challenge in Warrensburg, Missouri last weekend, beating Southern Arkansas, Henderson State and Arkansas Tech before losing to the host team Central Missouri to go 3-1 in the tournament.

SCOUTING THE AGGIES
The Aggies (1-9 overall) haven't gotten out to a very good start to the 2016 campaign leading up to Heartland Conference play. Oklahoma Panhandle State participated in two weekend tournaments to start the season, losing the first eight matches of the year before getting its first win of the season on Sept. 12 at home against Langston University. The Aggies last match was on Sept. 16 against the University of the Southwest, which they fell 3-1.

SCOUTING THE LADY CHAPS
The Lady Chaps (5-5 overall) played in two tough weekend tournaments to open up their season going 3-5 over those weekends. Lubbock Christian also played two nonconference matches at home winning them both, one on Sept. 6 against Southwestern Oklahoma State and the other against Eastern New Mexico on Sept. 13. The Lady Chaps open up Heartland Conference play against Arkansas-Fort Smith Thursday at home before taking on Newman Saturday afternoon.
