Jets Fall To Lady Chaps To Close Out Week

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Newman volleyball played its second Heartland Conference game of the season this afternoon against Lubbock Christian but fell 3-1.

KEY SEQUENCE

The Jets (12-5, 1-1 Heartland) managed to win an exciting first set but things got difficult for their offense in the remaining three sets, only having one lead throughout the final three sets to the Lady Chaps (6-6 overall, 1-1 Heartland).

HOW IT HAPPENED

Set 1

-Newman had a 7-2 lead early on in Set 1 but Lubbock Christian fought back to retake the lead a little over halfway through the set at 14-13.
-The Jets trailed 21-17 late but rallied to get five straight points with help from an Emily Harvey kill, Kayla Turner kill, two errors from LCU and an Andrea Wheeler ace to retake the lead at 22-21.
-Newman would once again tie things up at 25-25 to extend the set, the Jets would eventually take the set 28-26 with the final two points coming from a Yemima Buana kill and a block to finish the set from Hailey Braddy and Buana.

Set 2

-The Jets would get their last lead of the match at 2-1 early in Set 2.
-Lubbock Christian would jump out to a commanding 13-4 lead and eventually get its biggest lead out to 18-6.
-The Jets still fought hard by scoring the next 8-of-9 points to get back within six points at 19-13 late in the set but that would be the closest that Newman would get and lost Set 2 25-14.

Set 3

-Newman would have the score tied at 4-4 early on in the set but Lubbock Christian would go on a five point run to take a 9-4 lead and eventually extend that lead all the way out to 18-5 to control the set.
-The Jets would get the next 5-of-6 points with three kills from Braddy, one kill from Buana and a Lady Chap error to put the score at 19-10.
-Lubbock Christian would win Set 3 by a score of 25-12.

Set 4

-The Lady Chaps would come back out in Set 4, right where they left off in Set 3 by getting an early 9-3 lead over the Jets.
-Lubbock Christian would have the lead at 11-6 but Newman would rally with five straight points to tie the score at 11-11.
-The Jets would tie the score two more times at 12-12 and 13-13 but couldn't break through to get a lead in Set 4.
