Jets Get Into Postseason With 3-0 Victory In Lubbock

LUBBOCK, Tex. — The Newman Women's Soccer team won Saturday 3-0 beating Lubbock Christian. Newman needed to tie or better to advance to the postseason and the team was able to get a quality win on the road.

KEY SEQUENCE

The Jets (11-5-2, 8-4-2 Heartland) already score an early goal and with the momentum and advantage against the Chaparrals (9-7-2, 6-6-2 Heartland) early in the second half Rosa Urista-Chico was able to take a pass from Kaitlyn Logan in the box and was able to score putting the Jets up 2-0 and later giving them the 3-0 victory and a playoff spot.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Newman was able to get on the board early in this game when Colleen Howland was able to take the ball down field and from 18 yards out was able to net the ball pass the goalkeeper and giving the Jets an early 1-0 advantage.

-The Jets came out in the second half already firing on all cylinders and when Kaitlyn Logan was able to connect with Rosa Urista-Chico for a goal within the box after doing some dribbling around the box allowing Urista-Chico to get open and net the ball putting the Jets up 3-0.

-Emma Stewart was able to seal the victory when she received a pass from Rosa Urista-Chico after Urista-Chico cross the ball from inside the box, once Stewart got the pass she was able to score from 12 yards out for the third goal of the game giving the Jets a 3-0 victory.

NOTES

-The Jets enter the Heartland Conference tournament for the first time since the 2013 season, looking to make a run.

-Rosa Urista-Chico finishes the season with 11 goals which led the team and was tied for second in the conference.

-The Jets outshot the Chaparrals 19-12 with seven shots on goal.  

-The Jets will be on the road for the first leg of the tournament next week.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Jets will be traveling to Dallas, Texas Thursday Nov. 2 to take on top-seeded Dallas Baptist.
