WICHITA, Kan. —The Newman men's basketball team was able to come away with the win Wednesday 80-61 over Manhattan Christian. The Jets bounced back after going 1-1 last weekend at home and before the team prepares to go on the road next week.
KEY SEQUENCE
The Jets (2-1) came out in the second half looking to extend their lead on the Thunder (2-4), but the Thunder didn't back down, coming within two points of the Jets. The Jets were able to turn it around late in the second half. With offense and defense late in the second half, the Jets were able to pull away as the game neared the final minutes.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Jets were able to take the ball up and down the court and score at will during the early part of the first half. During the middle of the half, struggles defensively began for the Jets and the Thunder were able to capitalize. In the later part of the half the Jets picked it up defensively and offensively with help from Andre Sands, Ben Ayre and Dametrius Walker.
-The second half started off slow for the Jets with some mental mistakes and holes in the defense. The Thunder were able to come within three points in the early part of the half, making it a 38-35 game with 16:23 to play. The Jets were able to turn it around and getting back into the swing of their offense with the help of an 8-0 run, which would lead to the comfortable victory.
NOTES
-The Jets were able to out rebound the Thunder 48-37 in the game, including 10 offensive rebounds, leading to 11 second-chance points.
-The Jets were able to showcase their depth on the night, outscoring the Thunder in bench points, 37-16.

The Jets are back in action Tuesday as they will be taking on Pittsburg State in the MIAA Showcase in Kansas City, Missouri.
