LAREDO, Tex. —The Newman Volleyball team won in four sets Thursday 3-1. With the season winding down Newman is looking to make that final push into the playoffs and with Thursday's win they are moving closer to their goal.
KEY SEQUENCE
The Jets (11-18, 4-6 Heartland) were already up two set to none and were looking to put the Dustdevils (2-22, 0-10) away and in the fourth set the Jets started really hot going up 7-3 early. Later in the set the Jets were continuing their strong play with kills from Emily Harvey and Kayla Turner the Jets went up 23-16 late and would finish the set with last two points and finish the game winning 25-18.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The first set was a the beginning of a strong start for the Jets they began with good defense and better offense going up 20-13 in the middle of the set, with kills from Hailey Braddy, Emily Harvey and Yemima Buana the Jets would continue their dominance and win the set 25-17.
-The second set began just like the first with dominance on the side of the Jets and once again in the middle of the set with contribution from Kayla Turner, Emily Harvey and Crystal Powell the Jets were able to pull away again and finish strong winning the set 25-21.
-The Jets started the third going up 8-3 early, but getting toward the middle of the set mistakes were starting to give the Dustdevils momentum and closing in on the end of the set the Dustdevils were would come back to tie the game at 21 and would score four straight points to end the set winning it 25-22.
-The fourth set began and the Jets and Dustdevils were trading points back and forth and the middle of the set came and the Jets were beginning to pull away with kills from Emily Harvey, Kayla Turner and Crystal Powell the Jets were able to go up late and continue the dominance defense preventing the Dustdevils to make a run. The Jets would finish with five of the last seven points to finish the game 25-18.
NOTES
-Jets are looking to finish strong with two more games on the road.
-The Jets led the Dustdevils in kills 46-41 on Thursday, as well as aces 5-3 and assists 40-30.
-Emily Harvey, Kayla Turner, and Hailey Braddy led the game in kills while Yemima Buana lead the game in blocks and Regan Roth led the game in assists.

The Jets head to San Antonio to take on St. Mary's Saturday Nov. 4 at noon.
