Ichabods Slide Past Jets In Nonconference Play

WICHITA, Kan. —The Newman men's basketball team lost a tough game to MIAA foe Washburn Tuesday 84-58.

KEY SEQUENCE

The Jets (2-5) were looking at an early deficit when the Ichabods (4-3) were able to go on a 12-0 run in the first half. The Jets did struggle defensively, which helped the Ichabods during the first half run, and Washburn was able to keep the Jets grounded in both halves, not allowing the Jets to gain an edge offensively.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-The first half was a struggle for the Jets, with 9:39 left in the first half the Jets were looking at a 14-point deficit and wanting to turn it around offensively. The Jets were able to get some shots from Dametrius Walker and Aaron Samuels as they tried to get back into the game late in the first half.

-During the second half, the Jets were able to make a run, getting the deficit down to 15 with 10:43 left in the half. Walker, DeAndre Johnson, and Tim Troussel were all able to help the Jets offensively, getting the deficit down as much as they could, but the Ichabods played defense well, limiting the Jets shots late in the second half leading to its victory.

NOTES

-Walker had a big game for the Jets, scoring a career-high 22 points, and adding four assists and eight rebounds. Walker was able to keep the Jets in the game along with the help of his teammate Tim Troussel, who added 12 points, two rebounds, and two assists.

-The Jets finished up the early part of the nonconference schedule Tuesday, looking ahead to make a stand in conference play.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Jets open up Heartland Conference play Thursday, when they will play host to St. Edwards.
