WICHITA, Kan. — Getting their spring season off on the right foot, the Newman men's and women's tennis teams ran by McPherson Friday.
The Jet men (1-0) started off the day at West Genesis with a 7-2 victory over the Bulldogs (0-1), while the Jet women (1-0) swept the Bulldogs (0-1) 9-0.
Felipe Batistella at No. 2 singles, Blake Crawford and No. 4 and Lucas Norbiato at No. 5 all won tough three-set matches, and Newman started the day with three close victories to take a 3-0 lead after doubles.
Tamar Tskhakaia and Janneke de Rijk teamed up to grab a tight 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles, while all five Jets who faced competition in singles won in straight sets.
Newman gets right back to the court Saturday, facing Tabor at West Genesis.
