SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A stellar weekend from Eduardo Santos helped the Newman men's tennis team earn a split against a pair of nationally ranked teams this weekend.
The Jets (3-1) suffered a tough 7-2 loss to No. 35 Drury (5-1) Friday night, but saw Santos have one of the best days of his collegiate career. The senior started his evening by teaming up with Alejandro Gonzalez for an 8-3 victory over the Panthers' Max Hepp and Sebastien Amato, who entered as the No. 15 doubles team in Division II.
Santos followed that up by sweeping past Hepp 7-5, 6-1 at No. 1 singles to earn a straight-set victory over the No. 10 singles player in the country.
He finished off a perfect 2-0 mark in singles with another win in straight sets Saturday afternoon against No. 44 Lewis (6-4), joining four of his teammates to grab wins in singles, three others also without dropping a set.
The Jets face off against Friends on Friday before traveling to Washburn Saturday to continue nonconference play.
