WICHITA, Kan. — Going up against another tough foe, the Newman men's and women's tennis teams moved indoors, but fell to nationally ranked foes in Oklahoma Baptist.
Janneke de Rijk led the Jet women (4-12) in an 8-1 defeat against the No. 18 Bison (16-2), downing 36th-ranked Rouxanne Van Rensberg at No. 1 singles. It was the freshman's biggest win of her career, as she was up 6-4, 2-6, 2-0 before Van Rensberg retired.
The No. 43 Jet men (8-6), who have faced eight nationally ranked opponents this spring, fell 6-3 to the No. 46 Bison (13-5). Eduardo Santos and Alejandro Gonzalez grabbed an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles, while Blake Crawford came back for a three-set win at No. 6 singles and Felipe Batistella grabbed the win at No. 3.
The Jets have a quick turnaround, playing their final match at home this season Monday afternoon at Riverside Park against Cameron.
