CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Newman baseball team headed southeast to take on Rogers State in the series opening doubleheader Friday afternoon but fell in both games to start the weekend.
The Jets (15-18, 4-7 Heartland) could not manage to get anything going in the top of the first in Game 1, but the Hillcats (25-10, 9-5 Heartland) put three runs on the board in the bottom of the first to take a 3-0 lead early on.
Rogers State tacked on another run in the bottom of the second to go up 4-0 after two complete innings in Game 1.

Nick Griffin hit one back up the middle to score Williams from second to cut into the Rogers State lead at 4-1.
Williams had another single in the top of the sixth with one out, also making his way to second base again from a wild pitch. He would get over to third base in the inning but would be left stranded to close out the top frame of the sixth.
The Jets would load the bases in the top of the seventh but could not get anyone home to extend the game and fell 4-1 in Game 1.
Brian Canfield singled through the left side of the infield with two outs in the top of the first inning in Game 2. He made his way to second on a Griffin walk to get into scoring position but would be left stranded to end the top frame of Game 2.
Rogers State got out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first and added another run in the bottom of the second to go up 2-0 early in the contest.
